5 in a Row…

Now tonight’s game is the reason I love baseball.  So many intricacies and strategies in the game, each pitch has a reason behind it, if it didn’t the catcher wouldn’t be giving signs and the pitcher wouldn’t be shaking him off if he didn’t agree.

We are currently mid-way through a 4-game series against the Canberra Cavalry.  We won the first game last night via a 1-0 pitchers duel.  Tonight’s was also a pitcher’s duel but a few more runs were scored and it ended up 3-2 in our favor.  It didn’t look like that was going to be the case all game as the Sox did not capitalize on scoring chances inning after inning.  Canberra was up 2-0 after 6 and by the bottom of the 9th I thought we had no shot.  But the bottom of the order got things rolling and by the end of the inning the game was tied 2-2.

This team just finds a way to put a decent inning together and survives.  Then in the 11th inning Tyler Collins, our man from Texas drew a 2-out bases loaded walk to force in the winning run….then he almost forgot to walk to first base which would signal the final out of the inning, but luckily our smart shortstop Michael Lysaught yelled at him to get down the line so they could celebrate:

While this is only the second season of the ABL it seems as tho we have a bit of a heated rivalry brewing against Canberra.  In the 9th inning, after we tied the game up Collins flew out to the outfield and some words were exchanged:

And what wasn’t caught on film was the benches clearing after this.  No punches were thrown but it definitely awoke the Sydney side and gave the fans something to cheer about.

Here are a few other antics that happen on the field besides baseball:

Royalty Dance Crew pre-game

Pie-Eating Contest

He won

Mascot Race

Such a good night of entertainment and baseball – benches clearing, tie it up in the bottom of the 9th and go on to win it in the 11th…wow i love this game!
